Adam's work took him back to Austin again where he apparently met up with Paul Sonnenberg. Prompted by pub quiz vixen Elizabeth Holst they recorded a wonderful version of "Brandy."
I would love to find out what kind of microphone they use for those recordings ... and how much (if any) post-recording mixing is done ... because the sound quality is fantastic. Any way to find out that information?
Paul Sonnenberg himself would be the one answer that. Check out his webpage: http://www.GnomenclatureStudios.com and his other great videos on YouTube. For me, Brandy (the song) is a kind of guilty pleasure, I think because an old girlfriend objected to the way the sea dog leaves that fine Brandy in the lurch.
I can elucidate re: mics and such. That's the plain old Samson C01, plugged into a USB converter box (although they make a USB version of the mic, which I have) and run into GarageBand on a Mac. I think he just uses the Live Performance preset in GB, and mates the audio to the video from the camera. I do the same thing in my videos; it's not hard.
The Samson USB runs about $80.
I've ALWAYS loved this song, ever since it was ubiquitous on the radio when I was little.
